Scam Alert

Posted on:

A recent scam has targeted patients with emails claiming to be from their GP surgery, asking them to update their details or risk having their registration cancelled. These emails often direct patients to download software or visit suspicious websites to provide personal information. However, GP practices will never ask patients to install software or visit unknown websites to update details.

Here’s how to spot a scam email:

  • Check the sender’s email address: Is it familiar or slightly off?
  • Review the subject line: Are there vague phrases like “Important message”?
  • Look for errors or missing details: Does the email contain spelling errors, grammatical mistakes, or leave your name out?
  • Be cautious of links or downloads: Verify the email’s legitimacy by contacting your GP directly through trusted methods, not through the email.

If you receive such an email, do not click on any links or download anything. Contact your GP surgery directly through their official website or trusted phone number to confirm the information. You can also report the scam to Action Fraud.
